Femtosecond laser fabrication of tubular waveguides in poly(methyl methacrylate).

چکیده
Femtosecond laser direct writing is employed for the fabrication of buried tubular waveguides in bulk poly(methyl methacrylate). A novel technique using selective chemical etching is presented to resolve the two-dimensional refractive-index profile of the fabrication structures. End-to-end coupling in the waveguides reveals a near-field intensity distribution that results from the superimposition of several propagating modes with different azimuthal symmetries. Mode analysis of the tubular waveguides is performed using the finite-difference method, and the possible propagating mode profiles are compared with the experimental data.

Femtosecond laser written low-loss single-mode waveguides in PMMA
Ultrafast laser inscription is a standard technique to fabricate embedded waveguides in glasses or crystals. Tightly focused femtosecond laser-pulses induce an increase in refractive index inside the material via non-linear absorption. By moving the sample through the focus virtually arbitrary threedimensional paths can be created. The transfer of this technique to polymers has already delivere...
متن کاملTransverse writing of three-dimensional tubular optical waveguides in glass with a slit-shaped femtosecond laser beam
We report on fabrication of tubular optical waveguides buried in ZBLAN glass based on transverse femtosecond laser direct writing. Irradiation in ZBLAN with focused femtosecond laser pulses leads to decrease of refractive index in the modified region. Tubular optical waveguides of variable mode areas are fabricated by forming the four sides of the cladding with slit-shaped femtosecond laser pul...

We report on the fabrication of the stressed optical waveguide with tubular depressedrefractive-index cladding in phosphate glasses by use of femtosecond vortex beam. Strained regions were emerged in domains surrounding the tubular track. Waveguiding occurs mainly within the tube induced by femtosecond laser.

We report on the single-step fabrication of stressed optical waveguides with tubular depressed-refractive-index cladding in phosphate glasses by the use of focused femtosecond hollow laser beams. Tubelike low index regions appear under direct exposure due to material rarefaction following expansion. Strained compacted zones emerged in domains neighboring the tubular track of lower refractive in...
متن کاملFabrication of Carbon nanotube poly-methyl-methacrylate composites for nonlinear photonic devices.
Carbon nanotubes (CNT) are an attractive material for photonic applications due to their nonlinear optical properties, such as the nonlinear saturable absorption and high third order nonlinearity. However their utilization has been hindered by the lack of flexibility on the device design which rises from the current methods of Carbon nanotube deposition within the optical system. A suitable app...
